Yn dilyn ymholiad a wnaed gan y Cynghorydd Gwyn W. Evans, ar ôl adroddiadau am ollyngiad carthffosiaeth, rhoddodd Dŵr Cymru yr ymateb canlynol…
Dear Cllr Evans,
Thank you for your follow-up regarding reports of suspected wastewater at Llanrhystud beach.
Investigation Findings
Following the sensor alert, our operational teams attended site at the time the report was received. They confirmed that the storm overflow was not discharging and that the line was dry. I have included a photograph taken during this visit which evidences the condition at the time. This aligns with our earlier findings that the alert was caused by a faulty sensor, and that the storm overflow itself has not discharged since 12 March 2026.

Reports of Wastewater
We appreciate the concerns raised by members of the public and understand how distressing such reports can be. While we found no evidence of a discharge from our asset at the time, it is possible that what was observed may have originated from another source or was a naturally occurring phenomenon.
Supporting Information
To help distinguish between different types of pollution and natural occurrences, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has worked with West Wales Rivers Trust and other partners to produce a pollution identification guide. This resource explains how to recognise genuine pollution incidents compared to natural events, which can sometimes appear or smell similar but do not require urgent intervention. I have included a link to this guide for your reference available here.
Ongoing Monitoring
We take all reports of potential pollution seriously and will continue to investigate any future concerns thoroughly. The sensor fault has been identified, and steps are being taken to resolve this to prevent further false alerts.
If you or your constituents notice anything further, please continue to report this to us so we can respond promptly.
I hope my response is helpful. If you have any queries with the above, please contact me on 03300 413307 and I’d be happy to help. I’m usually available between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
Kind regards
